interim analysis

— Analyses done to check that it is reasonable for an ongoing study to continue

Full explanation:

Interim analyses are analyses done before the formal completion of a study, and usually before recruitment of participants into the study is complete.

These analyses are often used with ”stopping rules”, so that a study can be stopped if an interim analysis suggests that participants are being put at risk unnecessarily.
